Universal National Service: traffic jams on registration lists

the important thing
Although their schools encouraged second-year students to apply for the cohesion course during the mandatory course period set by Gabriel Attal from June 17 to 28, admission capacity is largely insufficient.

While in his general policy speech the new Prime Minister Gabriel Attal announced the future generalization of the Universal National Service (SNU) by the start of the school year 2026, it seems that the current system is theoretically open to all girls and all boys from 15 to 18 years old, it is not formatted for “many logins”.

This is especially true for the period of mandatory observation of internships in the company that was introduced in the second grade from June 17 to 28, again by Gabriel Attal, while he was still the Minister of National Education.

Applying for the Universal National Service and participating in the cohesion stay frees the students of this observation course in a professional environment. The parents of students were therefore rightly encouraged by the educational institutions to register their children in the cohesion stay, which represents the first phase of the Universal National Service, during this period.

Twice more applicants than possible admission

After registering on the SNU platform, most candidates received this message: “After a large number of applications received, your registration has been placed on an additional list. We will contact you as soon as a place becomes available.” According to our information, during this period the reception capacities are mostly insufficient in relation to the number of requests, knowing that “the places allocated to the Hautes-Pyrénées, initially set at 50, have been reduced to 30. The situation is similar for all departments of Occitania, so that there parents or students themselves are therefore obliged to continue the search for an observation internship, in the great uncertainty of enrollment at SNU in the period from June 17 to 28.

There are still places left for the July cohesion course

On the other hand, “the number of places has been increased to 70 for the cohesion course from July 3 to 15, and therefore there are vacancies”, a reliable source informs us. In any case, 100 places are currently reserved for the youth of Haut-Pyrénées for cohesion courses in June and July, while more than 4,000 high school students are educated in the department. For the record, the Hautes-Pyrénées served as an experimental area in 2019. That year, a certain Gabriel Attal, then Secretary of State for the Minister of National Education and Youth, went to Tarbes for the launch of the Universal National Service, during the closing of the Cohesion Course on June 27, 2019.
